Marion Kies Memorial Award
This is a call for nominations for the Marian Kies Memorial Award to honor a junior scientist for outstanding research conducted during graduate training. The award is named in memory of Marian Kies who devoted much of her energy and enthusiasm to fostering the development of young scientists. The award will be presented at the 36th Annual ASN Meeting, June 25-29th, 2005 in Madison WI. The award consists of $1,500 cash prize and the opportunity to organize a Symposium for the 37th annual meeting to be held in Portland, Oregon on March 11-16, 2006.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ph.D. or thesis awarded between May 2003 and December 2005
2. Ph.D. dissertation research of exceptional quality in the field of neuroscience
3. Nominee must submit an abstract to the ASN 36th Annual Meeting
4. Nominee must have performed dissertation work in the Western Hemisphere
NOMINATION MATERIALS
TO BE SUBMITTED:
Please submit application and letters of recommendation electronically as PDF
format or Word file. Letters of recommendation must arrive directly from supporting
scientists with your name and the words "MARIAN KIES MEMORIAL AWARD"
in the subject header. Otherwise, submit six hard copies of ALL materials. Support
letters must be included in the package, and sealed into a separate envelop,
signed on the seal by referring scientists.
1. Letter of recommendation from nominee's Ph.D. advisor and one other appropriate senior scientist familiar with the nominee's research. (limit of 2 pages per letter)
2. A summary of the nominee's doctoral research (maximum length of 1 single-spaced page.)
3. Curriculum vitae of the nominee. Honors, awards, involvement and activities in scientific societies and a list of all publications. (No limit on length)
4. Two peer-reviewed manuscripts, manuscripts in press or submitted for publication. Thesis chapters also accepted in lieu of publications. (No limit on length).
5. Text of the abstract submitted to the ASN 36th Annual Meeting in Madison, WI (standard abstract length).
